Senator: Govt should make large gas producers invest in Russia
MOSCOW, Apr 27 (PRIME) -- The government should prepare regulatory acts that oblige large Russian gas producers to engage in projects within the country, Valentina Matviyenko, speaker of the parliament’s upper chamber Federation Council, said on Tuesday at a parliamentary meeting.
President Vladimir Putin said previously that the government had to develop measures to connect residential housing to the gas distribution pipelines, or the so-called last mile, for free.
“The president has issued a tough order, and we have to fulfill it, we have to ask the government to take the necessary regulatory acts that oblige large companies to start working in their fatherland finally,” Matviyenko said.
There are regions that have large gas pipelines running through them but with a level of residential housing access to the gas infrastructure of only 10–12%. Large international projects are fine and prestigious, but the country has to achieve national gas infrastructure development goals, she said.
